IGCP Project 420 <>,is a program concerming the origin and evolution of the Central Asian Orogenic Belt, with emphasis on the production of voluminous juvenile granitoids. This has a profound implication for our understanding of the way how the continental crust has grown through the geologic time.Mongolia is situated right in the heart of the Central Asian Orogenic Belt,Hence it is very important in this regard.

During the First Workshop of IGCP-420 held last year in Urumqi,China,it was decided by the participants, with the gracious agreement of Prof.Gerel, that the Second Workshop and Field Excursion would be held Mongolia, and the Mongolian IGCP National Committee will be resposible for the organization of Workshop II.

The organisation started in last October by sending off the First Circulas to all members of IGCP-420. Since the Second Circular was delivered,we have received about 30 abstracts and short papers from 9 countries. This is the optimum number of communications for this meeting and excursion in view of our organisational capacities. We try our best to provide an ideal forum for you to meet and discuss a crucial issue and challenging topic on the continental growth in Central Asia.
