Palaeozoic strata in Xinjiang are an important field at oil and gas exploration. Paleozoic strata and conodonts in this area have been throughly studied. A great number of fossils, such as conodonts, graptolites, corals, foraminifers, chitinozoans, spore and pollens, trilobites and brachiopods were collected from this area. About 40700 (approximately) identifiable conodont elements were recovered from 23 outcrop sequences and 73 subsurface sequences in Xinjiang. 43 conodont Zones have been discussed and 238 species have been described, including 4 new species, 1 gen, et sp. Nov. This monograph describes conodonts were extracted principally from subsurface section in Tarim Basin.
