Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region is situated in the northwestern border of China, being the inland of Asian Continent ,occupying an area of 1660000km2 ,adorned with complicated geological features as well as abundant mineral resources .
From the seventies of 19th century to the fourties of 20th century some Chinese and foreign geologists had made sporadic geological reconnaissance work of different nature one after another .However ,large scale systematic regional geological survey began from 1955 and after thirty years of hard work, the regional geological survey on the scale of 1:200,000 in the area north of Tarim and the same work on the scale of 1:1,000,000in Kunlunshan and Altun mountain have been completed. Up to 1985 there is no geological vacant area in the whole region of Xinjiang .In recent ten years ,on the basis of the accumulation of abundant data ,generalizations have been carried on in many ways; and important achievements have been gained on different fields of basic geology. The compilation of this “Geological memoir of regional geology of Xinjiang Uymur Autonomous Region” with attached geological maps are the all-round systematic summary of these dated and results.
